KPBS Online Auction for Movie Lovers

These collectible one-sheets are yours if you are the winning bidder for the Indy Auction Package (Paramount)
When KPBS asked me if I had any ideas for the Online Auction, I immediately thought about what movie fans would enjoy most. The first thing I thought of was an opportunity to attend an advance screening of three of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, and the second thing was swag -- those highly collectible promo items and posters that fans love to get their hands on. So check out the KPBS Online Auction to bid on a chance to join me (and cut in front of the crowd) for special advance screenings of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Dark Knight, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Your bid will help support KPBS and its coverage of both news and the arts. If you're the winning bidder you'll be able to see these highly anticipated summer sequels before anyone else and you'll get to go with someone who's as rabid a fan as you are. You'll also be able to post your own review right here on the KPBS website. Plus, the winning bidders for The Dark Knight and Hellboy 2 will receive a pair of 4-day passes to this summer's sure-to-be-soldout Comic-Con. That's a $150 value right there! Read on to find out what fun collectible items are included in each of the auction packages. Plus look for the 20-DVD collection from United Artists celebrating the studio's 90 years of great entertianment.
First of all let's talk about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. If you were one of the 6400 lucky enough to get into the Paramount Panel at last summer's Comic-Con, then you were among the first to see the Indy team of Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and Karen Allen reunite on set after first joining forces for The Raiders of the Lost Ark more than two decades ago. The Indiana Jones Auction Package: includes tickets for 2 to a special advance screening of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (screening date will be between May 19 and May 22); original one sheet for Indiana Jones 4 (27" x 40"); studio reprints of the original one sheets for The Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (all 27" x 40"); and a six-foot Paramount promotional leather whip with leather Indiana Jones tag (check the IndyGear site for tips about how to use it!). And since I know that movie fans love swag, I've also rounded up a few other items including a long sleeve XL Charlie Wilson's War brown shirt, Forbidden Kingdom Trading cards, and a Harold and Kumar Campaign Kit. If you're looking forward to Indy 4 as much as I am, then I hope you'll make a bid and come join me for this special advance screening. Last year I attended Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with a group of teenage girls who were die-hard Potter fans (a dad had placed the winning bid for his daughter's birthday party), and it made the whole filmgoing experience more fun. And remember, you can post up your own review!

See Hellboy II: The Golden Army on July 8 and beat the crowds. (Universal)
Next up is the Hellboy II: The Golden Army. As a longtime fan of director Guillermo Del Toro, this film is one of the ones I am most looking forward to this summer. At Comic-Con, Del Toro said (before he had gotten the greenlight on the Hellboy sequel) that if you had read the script for part two, you'd cry because it was so good. So I can't wait to see that big red demon back in action.

These original one-sheets are park of the Hellboy II Auction Package (Picturehouse/Sony)
The Hellboy II Auction Package includes: tickets for 2 to a special advance screening of Hellboy II on July 8 at 7:30 PM at the Reading Gaslamp Stadium 15 Theaters (but subject to change); original one sheet for Hellboy (high gloss, one sided, 27" x 40"); original one sheet for Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth (double sided, 27" x 40"); original booklet of production notes to Pan's Labyrinth; Pan's Labyrinth CD soundtrack; a Pan's Labyrinth L t-shirt; and in honor of the fact that Del Toro was recently announced as the director of The Hobbit, the book The Frodo Franchise by Kristen Thompson.
As with the Indy package, you'll receive a Charlie Wilson's War XL long sleeve brown shirt; Forbidden Kingdom Trading cards; and a Harold and Kumar Campaign Kit. You will also be able to post your own review here to let everyone know what you think of Hellboy II. But wait there's more... an Iron Man talking 12" action figure and a pair of 4-day passes to this summer's Comic-Con where you can get the scoop on all of NEXT summer's big releases.

The Iron Man Toy
And finally, The Dark Knight, which includes Heath Ledger's final completed screen appearance. The early footage of his performance as The Joker are chilling compared to Jack Nicholson's less threatening, more cartoonish take on the character. Christian Bale returns and the Bat-Man with Michael Caine as his trusty assistant Alfred.

These original movie one-sheets are part of the Dark Knight Auction Package (WB)
The Dark Knight Auction Package includes: tickets for 2 to a special advance screening of The Dark Knight to take place week of July 14 (but subject to change); original one sheet teaser set for Batman Begins (27" x 40"); and original one sheet teaser for Dark Knight (27" x 40"). Plus the Charlie Wilson's War XL long sleeve brown shirt; Comic-Con passes for 2 ($150 value); Forbidden Kingdom trading cards; and Harold and Kumar Campaign Kit. And of course you will be invited to post your review right here on the movie blog.

Here's what the Forbidden Kingdom trading cards look like. (Lionsgate)

All winning bidders for the advance screening auction packages will receive a Harold and Kumar Official Campaign Kit-- vote now and vote often by logging on to http://www.kpbs.org to show your support for KPBS. (WB)
Thanks and I look forward to attending these films with some passionate KPBS film lovers. And I might be throwing in a few more surprise items -- maybe even something special once I find out what other films the winning bidders are into.
