Steve Poltz: This playful singer-songwriter and guitarist from San Diego – who co-founded the indie-rock band The Rugburns and co-wrote the Jewel song "You Were Meant for Me” – is known for his poignant melodies and quirky, satirical lyrics.
Join Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, for a unique summertime experience combining live music and spectacular ocean sunsets during the fourth annual Green Flash Concert Series, which kicks off May 20. These monthly summer concerts, co-hosted by 102.1 KPRI, take place from 6-9 p.m.
Music lovers ages 21 and older can enjoy live music and panoramic ocean views on the aquarium’s stunning outdoor tide-pool plaza. Savory happy-hour appetizers, craft beers and wines are available for purchase by Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. Forty percent of proceeds are donated back to Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
For its fourth season, Birch Aquarium at Scripps continues to expand its musical line-up with a sophisticated mix of national performers. Admission includes the concert, entrance to all aquarium exhibits and parking. Keep an eye out for a real “green flash,” a rare optical phenomenon caused by refraction of light as the sun sets on the horizon.
Green Flash concerts support Birch Aquarium at Scripps and its mission to provide ocean science education, to interpret Scripps Oceanography research and to promote ocean conservation.
