Closing the Gender Gap in Business and Politics

“There’s no such thing as a glass ceiling for women,” according to Laura Liswood, “It’s just a thick layer of men.” Liswood, co-founder of the Council of Women World Leaders and the White House Project, is the speaker at a gathering sponsored by Run Women Run, a new California Political Action Committee, on Sunday, June 28, from 1:00 to 4 pm at the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park.

Liswood will talk about challenges faced by women in politics and business on the path to advancing their careers. She will offer a number of practical mechanisms to help women make progress in their lives as well as their careers.

The Council of Women World Leaders, which Liswood co-founded with President Vigdis Finnbogadottir of Iceland, was originally housed at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where she was Director of the Women’s Leadership Project.

Following her talk which begins at 2 pm, Liswood will sign copies of her book, “Women World Leaders.” The first 100 registrants will receive a free copy of the book!

From noon on, the Mingei Museum will provide entrance to the museum to those who pre-register for the Laura Liswood program.

Admission to the program is $25 for RWR members and $35 for non-members. There is a $15 reduction in price for the second ticket for anyone bringing a guest.

Run Women Run (RWR), a political action committee (PAC), identifies and supports qualified San Diego women to run for office or seek appointed government positions in city, state and national offices. RWR supports candidates who share a desire for pay equity, a woman's right to choose, the civil rights of all, and equal access to education and opportunity. RWR provides clarity and prioritization of important issues through forums, networking and education, and provides a network for raising money for candidates and attracting volunteers.
