Lux Art Institute, the recent recipient of the San Diego Architectural Foundation's top design award, hosts its monthly Lux @ Night – a free evening of art, wine, music, and merriment—amidst Lux’s five-acre site that overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon and an expansive wildlife preserve that stretches to the Pacific Ocean. The festive event is sponsored by Supervisor Pam Slater-Price and the County of San Diego, and the City of Encinitas Community Grant Program and the Mizel Family Foundation.
Join Lux on Wednesday, May 20 from 7-9pm and enjoy a glass of wine and the last free opportunity to view Victoria Adams’ exhibit of atmospheric landscapes on its closing night . During her residency, the Vashon Island artist completed a luminous, 48 x 48 inch oil painting inspired by the San Elijo lagoon, one of California’s last remaining wetlands and neighbor to Lux.
Also on May 20, Lux is proud to present blues musician Ben Powell, live and in-studio. For this singer/songwriter/guitarist, music is about roots, authenticity, and feeling. Powell blends country blues, early jazz, and roots music with influences that include Charlie Patton, Jelly Roll Morton, Tom Waits, and Alvin Youngblood Hart, and the depth of his original work and attention to detail make for a smooth transition between his own material and that of his musical inspirations.
At Lux, visitors don’t just see art, they “see art happen,” for an interactive art experience. Artists live and work on site, while producing a commissioned work of art. Throughout the year, Lux invites significant regional, national, and international artists to participate in the Lux residency and encourages visitors from across the country to observe and engage with them.
$5 suggested donation for non-members.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A 21 & OVER EVENT.
