Capoeira Mandinga San Diego presents their 10th Annual Batizado and Troca de Cordoes on Sunday, May 24th at 3:00pm in the UCSD RIMAC on 9600 Gilman Drive. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art punctuated by dance forms and movements, and is not only practiced in Brazil but also the world over and right here in San Diego for the past 10 years.

Free and open to the public, the batizado (literally meaning baptism in Brazilian) is an annual event where students have the chance to graduate from one level to the next. Like other art forms, capoeira is practiced in different styles. The batizado is a way of bringing those forms together through the participation of mestres (masters) and students from other capoeira groups. This year, the batizado will feature over 60 mestres from places such as Brazil, New York, Las Vegas and Guam.

The Memorial Day Brazilian Party follows at 97 Horton in Westfield Horton Plaza located in downtown San Diego. The party will feature live entertainment such as samba dancers, bossa nova music, pagode & carnaval performances, and Brazilian folkloric dances. Tickets are only $12, and the doors open at 10:00pm. For additional information about our Batizado and Memorial day Brazilian Party, contact us at 619-867-3231, or visit our website at www.capoeirasd.com.
