A unique art and film exhibition in Imperial Beach invites the public to get in touch with the natural world through of eco-related art. Surrounded by several sensitive wetlands and important bird nesting areas, eco-tourism plays a significant role in Imperial Beach’s make-up and this exhibit pays tribute to that.”

This two-day free event will kick off Friday, Sept 18, from 7 p.m. to 9 with the showing of national and international short films at Mar Vista High School’s Black Box Theater. Get Directions (Google Maps)

The second day of the exhibition, Saturday, Sept. 19, will include events at both the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center and the beach-fronting Portwood Pier Plaza. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center will play host to a showcase of works from local digital artists, including Marv Lyons, whose pieces focus on endangered species, the environment, and the importance of conservation, and Walt Thomas whose creations center on the preservation of plants, animals and natural communities. Colorful creations from Art Kids of San Diego will decorate the space as regional plein air artists paint canvasses of the Tijuana Estuary, which will later be auctioned off.

Later that day at Portwood Pier Plaza at 5 p.m., awards will be given to the three best paintings and all will be auctioned off with proceeds going to benefit the South County Renaissance Project. The art auction will be followed at 7 p.m. by the main event, Cinema By The Surf. Sponsored by the Port of San Diego, people are encouraged to bring picnic dinners to enjoy while watching “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
