Concert: Jack Sanders, classical guitar

The Pleasure of Your Company music series sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library presents classical guitarist Jack Sanders on Sunday, April 18, at 2:30 pm in the informal and intimate setting of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center.

His program will include music of Narvaez, Sanz, Murcia, Sor, Barrios, and Tadic performed on vihuela, baroque and classical guitar.

As both soloist and chamber musician, Mr. Sanders has performed throughout the United States, from Hawaii and Alaska to Maine and New York. A 1988 tour of China included the Shanghai Conservatory, where he was the first U.S. guitarist to appear after the Cultural Revolution. Also an accomplished luthier, Mr. Sanders builds classical and flamenco guitars, as well as historic reproductions of vihuelas and 19th century instruments.

A faculty member of Pomona College since 1980, he has also taught guitar-building courses at California Institute of the Arts and Pomona College. He received his BFA and MFA degrees from California Institute of the Arts and has served on the Board of Directors of the Guitar Foundation of America since 1995.

There is no charge for the concert, although donations are appreciated. Meet the artist at a complimentary reception following the concert.
