Above: Romeo Et Juliet
Directed and Choreographed by Javier Velasco
“romantic… assured… expressive… seductive. Velasco mixes things up with the skill of a master chef… making it taste divine.” – San Diego Union-Tribune
SDB’s 20th anniversary comes full circle with the return of last years ROMEO ET JULIET. Lovely and lyrical. Compelling and heartbreaking. SDB’s production of Shakespeare’s classic tale of doomed love brought audiences to their feet at its unveiling.
Says Velasco, “Romeo and Juliet is hardly a novel idea for a ballet. I wanted to make sure that in my version of the piece, I was creating more of what Romeo and Juliet has come to mean to us. Meaning, I wanted to focus on the intimacy of two young people in love… something as fast and fleeting as that first, sudden, sensation of passion and desire.”
