Internationally Recognized Lawyer & Activist to Speak on Human Trafficking at USD

Catharine A. MacKinnon, a pioneer in the field of sex equality issues and sexual harassment, will discuss “Trafficking, Prostitution and Inequality.”

MacKinnon is recognized internationally for her role in creating ordinances that classify pornography as civil rights violation. Representing Bosnian women survivors of Serbian genocidal sexual atrocities, she and her co-counsel won a damage award of $745 million in 2000 in the case of Kadic v. Karadzic, which first recognized rape as an act of genocide.

Her talk will investigate the social connections between prostitution and trafficking, using India as an example to view the problems and solutions to trafficking in light of current debates.

Location: Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice, Directions & Parking
