The Road to Healthy Meals in our Schools

Renegade Lunch Lady Chef Ann Visits San Diego to Improve Kids School Lunches:

Celebrated author and children's nutrition advocate Ann Cooper aka the "Renegade Lunch Lady" will be in town February 18 - 19, 2010 to offer healthy meal tips to Albert Einstein Academies Charter School in South Park. AEA won a national "Lunch Room Makeover" video contest sponsored by Whole Foods Market and Chef Ann as part of Chef Ann Cooper's initiative which started with the new school year.

The two day event will feature a community lecture on Thursday, February 18, from 6-8 p.m. titled "The Road to Healthy Meals in our Schools." The lecture, sponsored by Slow Food Urban San Diego and Whole Foods Market Hillcrest, will be held at the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. Friday, February 19, will include a morning visit by Chef Ann at AEA with students, and a Local Chefs Challenge to create tasty and affordable school meals that meet district guidelines and ingredient requirements. Afternoon activities, also at AEA, include:

3:00 -3:45 pm - Parent/Community Open Forum with Chef Ann to discuss the goals of the Lunchroom Revolution.

3:45 - 4:30 pm - Healthy Meals Healthy Kids Expo: Info tables and exhibits by community groups, local vendors, neighboring Alchemy Restaurant with AEA student chefs, SDUSD Food Services, and more. For more information visit the Albert Einstein Academies Web site.
