Internationally acclaimed Hungarian pianist Endre Hegedűs will return on Saturday, January 30, at 7 PM to the intimate setting of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center in the only San Diego appearance of his current North American tour. Critics and audiences alike have hailed Hegedűs as one of the most distinguished piano soloists in the world. He will present an all Chopin recital celebrating the Chopin Bicentenary Year, 2010.
Mr. Hegedűs is a graduate of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest, Hungary, in both performance and pedagogy, where he is currently Professor of Piano. He has won many prizes at international piano competitions. In 1999 the Steinway Center of New York City conferred on him the title "Steinway Artist," and in England that year he was named one of the 300 best active pianists in the world. He was awarded the prestigious Franz Liszt Prize and both the György Cziffra and the Liszt Millennial Plaque in 2000. In 2004 the President of Hungary presented him with a Presidential Medal. Mr. Hegedűs has performed extensively in most countries of Europe, as well as in Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, the former Soviet Union and the United States.
The concert is co-sponsored by the House of Hungary, San Diego, and the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library. A complimentary reception featuring Hungarian pastries will offer an opportunity to mingle with fellow music lovers.

The entrance to the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center is located in Scripps Ranch a few hundred feet west of the entrance to Miramar Lake on Scripps Lake Drive. Patrons arriving from outside the Scripps Ranch area are advised to take the Mira Mesa Boulevard exit (Exit 16) off I-15 east to Scripps Ranch Boulevard, turn right (south) onto Scripps Ranch Boulevard, then turn left (east) onto Scripps Lake Drive to reach the Library. Alternatively, patrons can take the Carroll Canyon Road exit (Exit 15) off I-15 east; continue straight from Carroll Canyon Road onto Scripps Ranch Boulevard (north), then turn right (east) onto Scripps Lake Drive to reach the Library Center.
