Lux Art Institute, the first LEED-certified art museum in San Diego County, will host its monthly Lux@Night – a free evening of art, wine, live music and merriment – on Wednesday, July 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. This will be the last Lux@Night of the 2009/2010 Season until the event resumes in September 2010 for the start of the 2010/2011 Season.

Amidst Lux’s five-acre site that overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon and an expansive preserve that stretches to the Pacific Ocean, visitors can enjoy the last free opportunity to view Sati Zech’s exhibit of bold, crimson bollen works before her show closes on July 31.

Culled from Zech’s series titled "Bollenarbeit", the works at Lux are large-scale pieces featuring thick mounds of bright red paint applied on rows of un-stretched canvas that have been torn, glued, sewn and layered together. Guests will also be able to see the commissioned pieces that Zech created while in residence at Lux.

For the upcoming Lux@Night, Lux is proud to present San Diego indie rock band, Joel P West and The Tree Ring in a special, live performance. The band has most recently performed on KPBS’ "These Days" and at the popular Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee.

J & K Souvenir Inc., Lux’s latest store project conceived and created by two of San Diego’s most recognized artists Jean Lowe and Kim MacConnel, will also be open for business during the Lux@Night event. The retail installation features a finely edited collection of distinctive, handcrafted goods that illustrate the tension between the mass-produced and the aggressively handmade. On display and for sale are small terra cotta figurines of local endangered animals, ceramic plates, select “Hulga’s of San Diego” jewelry, locally produced honey, coastal flower bouquets fabricated from beach trash, paperweights, Universal Method of English books and placemats, Dunkin’ Donuts ceramic cups, and clown kits—ranging in price from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars.

Lux@Night is sponsored by Supervisor Pam Slater-Price and the County of San Diego.

Lux@Night is a 21 and over event, and there is a $5 suggested donation.
