Art lovers and their families are invited to Lux Art Institute’s Free Saturday on June 12. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests will enjoy an open house with free admission, studio tours, refreshments and live music by rockabilly country band Hello Trouble.

In the Lux Classroom, visitors will be invited to create mixed-media paintings on raw canvas in the style of Berlin-based resident artist Sati Zech.

Lux Liaisons will guide visitors through the studio where they will be able to view Zech’s exhibit of bold, crimson bollen works, large-scale pieces featuring thick mounds of bright red paint applied on rows of un-stretched canvas that have been torn, glued, sewn and layered together. Guests will also be able to see the commissioned piece that Zech will be working on while in residence at Lux.

J & K Souvenir Inc., Lux’s latest store project conceived and created by two of San Diego’s most recognized artists Jean Lowe and Kim MacConnel, will also be open for business during Free Saturday.

Lux, San Diego’s interactive art destination, is dedicated to encouraging the artistic curiosity of guests of all ages.
