Above: Curator Carol McCusker in an art studio.
Carol McCusker's talk, "Know Thyself," will focus on fine art photography, specifically questions around how we develop a vision, what influences come to bear on our creative output, and the roll of galleries, museums, photo competitions and portfolio reviews. This will be a 'must see' presentation for collectors of photography as well as artists working toward being shown in high-end galleries or museums.
Using music as a corollary, she'll explore how photography falls into as many different categories (folk, rock, jazz, country, world beat, classical, etc.), but how, within each category, there are equivalents of 'Musak' at one end of the spectrum and inspired innovation at the other. What she seeks from all creative people, including herself, is the ability to 'know thyself,' and to honestly know where you fit in this spectrum.
