See the San Diego premiere of "GALAPAGOS". Join marine biologist Dr. Carole Baldwin on a tour of one of the world’s most intriguing natural environments: the Galapagos Islands, a group of 19 islands and 42 islets located on the equator 600 miles west of the Ecuadorian mainland. See in brilliant IMAX® clarity the volcanic archipelago’s famous tortoises, sea lions, lizards and birds, and then dive beneath the ocean to find fantastic sea creatures, some of which were previous unidentified prior to the making of this IMAX film.

"GALAPAGOS brings the excitement of a Smithsonian research expedition to the large format screen, utilizing the realism of IMAX immersion technology," said Robert Fri, director of the National Museum of Natural History. "For the first time ever, theater goers will share the experience of traveling with a Smithsonian scientific team to a field site in the exotic Galapagos Islands.”

"Engaging the audience while conveying complex scientific concepts was our primary challenge," said Andy Gellis, Senior Vice President, Film for IMAX Corporation, and one of the film's three executive producers. "We believe the film GALAPAGOS makes a significant scientific and cultural contribution to the appreciation and understanding of these exotic and magnificent islands.” The film also examines the history of the archipelago, including the time Charles Darwin spent in Galapagos, and his subsequent publishing of his theory of evolution.

In addition to Gellis, the executive producers of the film are Laurence O'Reilly, co director of the Discovery Center Project at the National Museum of Natural History and Barry Clark, a founding partner of Mandalay Media Arts. The chief scientific adviser was Dr. John McCosker of the California Academy of Sciences.
