An Evening with Photographer Jens Lucking

Jens Lucking's image, "Leaning Al," is part of an ongoing project photographing his Muse, the British model Alistair Baker. This picture was taken during a trip to South Africa, using the extremely high wind speeds to achieve a surreal and raw image, the model dwarfed by a large palm tree to the left. Particular care was taken in creating a recognizable V-shape between the model and its shadow, symbolizing the French word for wind: vent. Alistair's unique look and stature have inspired a wide body of work created over the past decade which has won him a cult following around the world.
About Jens Lucking:
Jens developed a passion for photography at an early age, regularly borrowing his father's Mamiya or his uncle's Rollei. Ever since the latter surprised him with a $5 Agfamatic camera on his tenth birthday, Lucking has been traveling around the globe in search of the perfect picture. After training in his native Germany and 13 years of working and exhibiting in London, Jens finally moved to California in 2009.
His efforts have resulted in a string of awards and exhibitions in a number of galleries in Europe and the US, including multiple shows at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
