'A Grand Night For Singing' At SDSU
Above: Graphic flyer for the SDSU theater department's production of "A Grand Night for Singing," featuring a fresh take on classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals.
Enjoy an exciting, fresh take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein canon conceived by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie at San Diego State's production, "A Grand Night for Singing." Over three decades after the duo's final collaboration, The Sound Of Music, took the Great White Way by storm, it was this new Rodgers & Hammerstein revue that opened the 1994 Broadway season, earning two Tony nominations, including Best Musical.
With innovative musical arrangements including a sultry Andrews Sisters-esque "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair," a swingin' "Honeybun" worthy of the Modernaires, and a jazzy "Kansas City" this revue will leave no question about how terrifically up-to-date the remarkable songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein remain.
The performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 - 23, 27 - 30; and at 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2010.
Prices: $13 for faculty/staff/students/alumni, $15 for public. There is a $1 service charge per ticket at all locations.
