We invite you to attend San Diego Botanic Garden's 11th annual Gala in the Garden, “Celebrating Environment and Stewardship”, on Saturday, September 11, at 5:00 p.m.
This year’s honored guest is Dr. Jodie Holt, the botanical consultant for the blockbuster film Avatar, where she shaped Sigourney Weaver’s character as a botanist and helped create and name plants for the film. She is Professor of Plant Physiology and Chair of the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at University of California, Riverside. We are pleased to honor her at the Gala with the Paul Ecke, Jr. Award of Excellence for her life’s work as a distinguished scientist and educator.
Much like Avatar, San Diego Botanic Garden will be transformed into a wonderland of colors, lights and flora. Adding to the experience will be the area’s finest eateries serving a delectable assortment of their most celebrated dishes. Enjoy your stroll through the Garden by exploring the different landscapes, dancing the night away to the sounds of a live band, and winning coveted prizes in our silent auction.
Don’t miss this chance to enjoy a magical garden party that promotes environmental responsibility while celebrating nature and conservation.
“We (at the Garden) have a history of leadership as one of the region’s most environmentally conscious organizations, and we recognize that comes with a responsibility. At this year’s Gala, we look forward to growing even greener,” said Julian Duval, CEO of San Diego Botanic Garden. “Waste will be composted or recycled, incentives provided for carpooling, and energy consumption reduced. Our goal is to promote environmental stewardship through preserving the natural beauty of the garden and the larger ecosystem within which they reside, for future generations to enjoy.”
Tickets are $175 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are available. All proceeds from this year’s Gala in the Garden will contribute directly to the growth of the Garden and fund essential projects, programs and exhibits.
