Jewish Family Service of San Diego will bring community members together to discuss issues of San Diego Food Stamp usage, the loss of millions in revenue and inspire solutions on Sunday, April 10, 2011, 10 to noon.
It’s a fact. One out of every seven people in the U.S. is hungry. Five million of them live in California. Hundreds of thousands of them are San Diego residents. This situation is even more unfortunate considering recently released reports that show many of a significant number of them could be participating in food stamp benefits, and are not doing so.
In fact, San Diego ranks 53rd out of 58 state counties in participation in the food stamp program known in California as CalFresh, leading to both unnecessary, widespread hunger as well as hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue for San Diego.
