The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library invites you to join the 2010 San Diego Art Prize winners Einar and Jamex de la Torre with emerging artist Julio Orozco for a special walk-through of their exhibition "ho-yeé-tah (joyita/small jewel)" on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. The walking tour will be followed by a question and answer session and a brief presentation of the artists’ seminal works.
Presented by the San Diego Visual Arts Network, the San Diego Art Prize is awarded to several established and emerging San Diego artists whose achievements in the field of visual arts merit recognition. Each season, winning artists receive exhibition opportunities, a cash prize, and are asked to select an emerging artist to share the spotlight.
The exhibition will be on view in the Athenaeum’s Main Gallery through May 7, 2011.
Julio Orozco has been selected by the de la Torre brothers as the emerging artist for their San Diego Art Prize exhibition. Orozco’s beginnings as a documentary crime photographer for a daily newspaper inform his experimental works, which include installation, video, and photography.
Admission for the artists’ walk-through and exhibition is free for Athenaeum members and the public. For more information, call the Athenaeum at (858) 454-5872 or visit the website at www.ljathenaeum.org.
