Imagine walking along a street in Havana and you come upon a group of musicians playing traditional Cuban Music. This is what Combo Libertad is all about. Romantic Boleros, Hot Rumbas, Cha Cha’s and “Rico Mambos” which make you want to get up and dance. On Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 Son Cubano Night with Combo Libertad will be at Belly Up Tavern at 7:30 p.m.
The song list is chosen from the classic Cuban songs known throughout Cuba from the time period before the Revolution. Combo Libertad utilizes traditional Instruments,the Tres, Tresillo, Congas, Timbales, Trumpet, Trombone, and Bass. There are no Synthesizers or sequencers used in performances of Combo Libertad. The core members of the group consist of Joaquin Gonzales, guitar and vocals ,Elizabeth Meeker,Trumpet, Ignacio Arango,Bass and Guitar, and Jim Woodard,Tres, Tresillo,and Guitar, and Percussionists from the Cuban Community in San Diego.
