Join UCSD Visual Arts at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in La Jolla for an artist talk with Aaron Levy on Jan. 20, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Levy is the founding Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Slought Foundation, which undertakes discursive projects that engage in contemporary debates about art, architecture, and social theory. Working across a variety of platforms and initiatives, Levy is known for his collaborative approach and interest in cultivating a critical and creative audience through public conversation.
Projects include How to Get Started with the John Cage Trust, an interactive installation featuring a rarely heard performance by Cage that will evolve over time through the participation it invites from its public. Other collaborations include the Perpetual Peace Project, which explores prospects for reducing geopolitical conflict in partnership with the European Union National Institutes of Culture and other institutions. The project includes an installation at the New Museum for Contemporary Art through January 9, 2011; a symposium with philosophers and statesmen in conversation at the International Peace Institute, United Nations Plaza; and workshops on peace which Levy conducted with students in Lahore, Pakistan in September 2010 as a United States Cultural Envoy.
