The Farrell Family Jazz series continues on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. with a return visit by Israeli clarinetist and saxophonist Anat Cohen, who made her Athenaeum debut last spring with her special tribute to Benny Goodman.
Cohen returns this summer with her own contemporary quartet featuring Joe Martin on bass, Daniel Freedman on drums, and a pianist to be announced. An established bandleader and prolific composer, conversant with modern and traditional jazz, classical music,
Brazilian choro, Argentine tango, and an expansive timeline of Afro-Cuban styles, Anat Cohen has established herself as one of the primary voices of her generation on both the tenor saxophone and clarinet. Winner of three consecutive Jazz Journalists Association Clarinet Player of the Year awards and multiple Rising Star Clarinet awards in the DownBeat critic's polls, Anat Cohen has been described as “one of the most acclaimed young jazz musicians to emerge in the last decade” (JazzTimes).
