Historic 4th Of July Celebration In Old Town

Experience Independence Day in true 1800s style!

Step back in time and experience the excitement of an old fashioned 1800s Independence Day celebration in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Old Town will come alive as our talented volunteers and staff reenacts the celebration in the plaza, dressed in period attire of the 1800s.

The festivities begin with a band playing music at 11:30 a.m. and the raising of the historic 28 star flag at 12:00 p.m. Enjoy bygone wagon rides, games, demonstrations, activities, cake walks and more.

Try your skills at pie eating and cherry pit spitting contests, sack races, bucket races, egg toss, and cow chip throwing to name a few. Come early to participate in the parades procession! Delight in a picnic in the scenic plaza while being treated to patriotic music, historic dances accompanied by other entertainment observing our independence.

Re-enactors from the San Pasqual Battlefield Volunteer Association will demonstrate cannon firing throughout the day. Blacksmiths will demonstrate historic anvil firing north of the plaza.
Admission is free, festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Fun for all ages.
This family friendly event is supported by the Boosters of Old Town (BOOT), who financially aid in the parks educational programs.

Free parking is available in the CalTrans headquarters on Taylor Street, one block from the event site or ride the Trolley to the Old Town Trolley Station. Google Maps
