Sharon Novak allows you to envision like a painter or collage artist, while working like a metal smith. Create a composition that is autobiographical, abstract, figurative or scenic. Using a variety of tools and metalworking techniques, cut shapes and images out of thin-gauge copper or brass, and enrich them with texture, color and form. Prepare your wooden base with acrylic paint.
Then attach your visual elements with a variety of copper, brass and steel nails, tacks and thin wires to sew, wrap, coil and connect. Basic patina techniques will be presented to enrich the metal with color. Your final collage may be 2-D or project dimensionally. The class takes place on Monday June 6 & Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 10am – 4pm.
