Lecture: A Good Place To Grow Up Is Green

"A Good Place To Grow Up Is Green" is a lecture held by Louise Chawla of the University of Colorado.

Chawla will let you know that when children around the world are asked how to create cities and communities that are good places in which to grow up, safe parks and natural areas rank high on their lists. Building on the “Growing Up in Cities” program of UNESCO and the Child Friendly Cities Initiative of UNICEF, learn methods for enabling young people to evaluate their communities and design places that are a “genial green.”

These approaches are placed in the context of research that demonstrates that access to nearby nature is a vital element of young people’s health and well-being. Learn how we can enable young people to evaluate their communities and design places that are a “genial green.” The result is an environment where they feel safe, engaged, valued, and empowered to care for their communities and the larger web of life.

Location: San Diego Natural History Museum at 4th Floor at 1788 El Prado, Balboa Park.
