"Gamera: The Giant Monster" is a 1965 daikaiju eiga (Japanese giant monster film) about a giant turtle awakened from the accidental detonation of an atomic bomb as a result of an aerial assault by American fighters on Soviet bombers caught crossing into North American airspace. The fire-breathing, flying turtle monster wastes no time in causing a rampage of destruction and wreaking total havoc on its way to reach Japan. As with most films made during the Japanese monster film boom of the mid-to-late 1960s, "Gamera" explores the by-products of war as the flotsam of bellicose humanity returns to haunt us. Directed by Noriaki Yuasa, 1965, 86 minutes, Japan. (Part of SchlockFest film series celebrating B movies we love).
