On November 19, 2011 the Barona Cultural Center & Museum will open “Rock of Ages: Contemporary Music Traditions on the Barona Reservation” an exhibition that will showcase today’s native culture of singer-songwriters, rock bands, country-western players and other popular music, reservation-style.
The history of music on the Barona Indian Reservation is rich and diverse and rooted in tradition. Today’s contemporary musicians carry on the tuneful tradition through genres of rock, corridos, country-western and folk music. “Rock of Ages” will feature those musicians who have records and CDs; professional musicians; those who play music as a hobby; and those who have shared their musical talents with the community during times of sorrow and celebration. Most importantly, the exhibition will celebrate all of these dedicated musicians who are passing down their love of music to a new generation and continue this important Barona tradition.
The Barona Cultural Center & Museum is located on the Barona Indian Reservation. It is open Tuesday through Friday, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free. Google Map.
