This opening concert, inspired by our neighbors to the south, seeks to bridge the gap between the familiar sounds of traditional Mexican folk music and the more current voices of Mexico’s classical music scene, featuring works by composers Arturo Márquez and Javier Alvarez. Because they play an integral role in the culture of San Diego, celebrating the many colors and sounds of Mexico is an appropriate way to open the Steppin’ Out season.
