THIS EVENT IS IN THE PAST!
Summer Salon Series 2012: Beyond The Banner

Zac Kime Montanaro and Jamilah Abdul-Sabur will create temporary installations that alter gallery spaces. Montanaro’s site-specific intervention will force visitors to navigate a Museum gallery in a proscribed manner. By blocking entrances and moving benches, the artist will mediate the viewing of art through reproductions and modified spaces. Abdul-Sabur will present a 30 foot long wall installed diagonally through the upper galleries and inscribed with quotes that explore the historical construct of liberty, conflict and social survival.
Allison Cobb will read from her work in progress, The Autobiography of Plastic. Cobb’s work follows the journey of a single piece of plastic through San Diego, emphasizing through scientific and artistic observation, that we are all connected.
Over the course of ten weeks, Andrew Printer’s "The Quilt Conversation" will create two quilts inspired by and recalling a version of the renowned NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt (originally assembled in the 1980s) within the Museum. Grab a drink at Giuseppe's bar, create your own work in a printmaking workshop, and enjoy the ambiance of the evening.
