“An Evening of Short Plays” An untraditional holiday theatre experience in a unique performance space!
San Diego’s newest community theatre company is presenting “An Evening of Short Plays” at The Body Alchemist, a local premiere workout studio. The Pilates equipment is being shuttered to make way for an evening of eclectic performances. The collection of plays begins with one of Tennessee Williams’ little known treasures “I Rise in Flame, Cried the Phoenix”. This is the disturbing tale of notorious author turned painter D.H. Lawrence and his twisted perspectives on love.
The evening continues with two other pieces from the early years of playwright Shel Silverstein. He’s known for his children’s stories but “No Soliciting” and “Garbage Bags” give the audience a different look at Silverstein’s warped sense of humor. “No Soliciting” provides the ultimate revenge on every door-to-door salesman who has ever pestered a housewife. “Garbage Bags” is a poetic take on a traditionally unpleasant household chore. The audience will literally be buried in its comedy.
The talented cast includes veteran director and actor, George Bailey who has a lengthy resume of performances in summer stock, dinner and community theatres on both coasts. Elizabeth Greene returns to the Trinity Company in the role of Frieda, one of Lawrence’s love interests. Deanna Mellott, William Corkery, Terri Bratcher and 12 year old Sophia Rogers are making their debuts with Trinity.
The evening begins with vocalist Janine Walz in a preshow musical revue featuring a varied repertoire of songs to prepare the audience for the show.
