As humans every thought must pass a dual consciousness: good and evil, black and white, positive and negative, right and wrong, beauty and decay. These are so much a part of our reality that we fail to realize these dualities can cause resistance to what our souls seek the most, Love. If we learn to accept dual perceptions we open our lives to Love and its own dualism.
Godoy and Lopez-Chavez describe this dualistic thinking through the metaphysics of their work. In this exhibition, Thumbprint Gallery forms a union of two separate creative energies with the expression of unifying the dualism of Love. The artists embrace their thoughts and emotions in a tone of abstract expressionism.
For Sonia Lopez-Chavez, the pursuit of passion and beauty has been her calling since inception. Born in the vibrant city of Guanajuato, Mexico, at an early age Sonia moved to San Diego. Her work embodies pulsating color schemes, themes of heritage as well as inspiration from the Southern California landscape.
In comparison, Miguel Angel’s relationship with the aerosol is ”a toxic frenzy now used to be destructive in a beautiful way.” From the age of 13 years Miguel’s relationship with the aerosol can has represented an addiction, darkness, empowerment and lastly his creative release. Hence, his portraits and murals are formed out of a destructive and restorative process.
Opening reception of the exhibition will take place on February 11, 2012 from 5pm-10pm. "Dualism of Love/Dualismo del Amor" will be displayed for the public from February 11, 2012 - March 4, 2012 at Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla.
