What better place is there to spend Independence Day than at an all-American county fair? Highlighting the day will be the traditional fireworks display, which will happen at approximately 9PM on the 4th of July. The fireworks display is visible throughout the Fairgrounds, so as long as you're outside, there's no better place to watch!
The day will start with a patriotic Opening Ceremony about 9:30AM at the O'Brien Gate. When the gates open about 10:00AM, there'll be plenty to do, including a great lineup of entertainment, including "Weird Al" Yankovic in a free-with-Fair-admission performance on our Heineken Grandstand Stage immediately following the fireworks display. The Navy Band Southwest will perform before the fireworks on the Grandstand Stage.

There are several great contests throughout the day. No pre-registration is required; click the links to find out how to participate!
Our special Fourth of July contests are: Homemade BBQ Sauce and Most Patriotic Costume Contest.
Hometown Heroes Parade
The San Diego County Fair and 96.5 honor our "Hometown Heroes," those inspirational and influential people we are fortunate enough to have in San Diego County. These individuals go above and beyond to have a positive impact on their community. Nominate your hero to be honored at the 2012 San Diego County Fair!
Whether you know someone who is an active duty military member, a first responder, or a teacher we want to hear their story. Those nominated will receive four complimentary tickets to the San Diego County Fair for the Fourth of July, the opportunity to participate in a parade at the Fair, a limited edition T-shirt, an honorary certificate and priority viewing of the fireworks.
Your nominee could be a police officer, a fire fighter, nurse, humanitarian, supportive spouse — anyone who is a hero in your life! Nominations will be accepted until June 15, 2012. 100 nominees will be selected. We look forward to honoring the heroes we have in San Diego!
