Summer Salon Series 2012: Beyond The Banner

Summer Salon Series will discuss memory, history and memorial. The installation "Something to do with Crossing" features recreations of headstones from an "immigrant cemetery" in El Centro, California and audio recordings based on actual testimony from migrants.
Artists Misael Diaz and Amy Sanchez of the Cognate Collective will give will discuss their installation, and the questions they considered during its construction. The Quilt Conversation will create a quilt that recalls the 54-ton NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt during eight evenings throughout the summer.
In The Studio Gallery Lucy Eron, Museum Educator will lead a Fiber Arts Workshop to create pieces inspired by the tapestries hanging in "The Invention of Glory." Join the art-making conversation, sip a cocktail in the rotunda, and view an interview by The Third Party.
