Western-style remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" in which a group of seven gunslingers are hired to protect an oppressed agricultural village from a group of marauding bandits.
This American remake of "Seven Samurai" is featured in the 2012 One Book One San Diego selection "Into the Beautiful North" by Luis Alberto Urrea. Part of Friday Talking Pictures, a world-spanning monthly celebration of contemporary and classic cinema viewed on a wide silver screen.
June spotlights five inventive films featuring outsiders who reflect the theme of social displacement found in the three books: "Sky of Red Poppies" (Zoe Ghahremani), "Moloka’i" (Alan Brennert), and "Into the Beautiful North" (Luis Alberto Urrea), all 2012 One Book, One San Diego selections.
