Thumbprint Gallery will be hosting its first all-acoustic show on Saturday, March 3rd. TPG Unplugged: An Acoustic Music Event will be featuring performances by a variety of local musicians who will come together to bring their live, original music to
the public in an intimate setting.
One of these musicians is singer-songwriter Terry Matsuoka, who became a staple of the San Diego music scene with his 2000 album release, “Raw Acoustic Stylee,” which was recorded in his bedroom with no electric instruments. The Daily Aztec has described Matsuoka’s effect on the audience as “akin to that of a cool cousin you only see twice a year, yet wished would never leave.” Known for his humor and variety of skills, including beat boxing, he has shared billing with artists like The Furious Four, Tim Flannery, The Far East Movement, and Jewel. He is greatly influenced by soul musicians like Marvin Gaye, as well as the Beatles, Bob Marley, and Beck.
Also performing is Diego Manrique, whose music blends rumba, reggae, rock, and other Caribbean music styles. Through the warm sound of the acoustic guitar and the rhythm in his melodies, he creates music to encourage both celebration and introspection. Born in Bogota, Colombia, Manrique grew up playing the guitar with his two brothers. Then, at 19 years, he moved to San Diego to study music and work on his first album. He often collaborates with other artists combining spoken word with contemporary Latin music and plays classical and instrumental music as a form of meditation.
Other artists who will be performing include, Catherine Nguyen, Tony Felix, and more. The show starts at 8pm and runs until 11pm on March 3.
