Almost 40 years after first appearing in their yellow jumpsuits and "flower-pot" hats, Devo is still making music together. Devo formed in Akron, Ohio in 1972. They were new wave's, first, most successful band!
Their huge single "Whip It," with the help of MTV made them a cult sensation. Two Kent State art students Jerry Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh named the band after the phrase "de-evolution." They believed that instead of evolving, mankind has actually regressed, as evidenced by the problems and herd mentality of American society.
Their music was supposedly a mirror of this view and their vision of society were of a rigid, repressive, and mechanical world and they interpreted this through their music through jerky, robotic rhythms, and their obsession with technology and electronics.
In 2010, DEVO released their first album in 20 years, "Something For Everybody," which proved that DEVO could continue to create quality music that appeals to fans new & old, still fitting comfortably with their back catalog. Their live shows supporting this album have been very well received, and the new material stands strong with the old.
