The Cult emerged in 1984 as one of England's leading heavy metal revivalists. Picking up the pseudo-mysticism and Native American obsessions of the Doors, the guitar-orchestrations of Led Zeppelin, and the three-chord crunch of AC/DC, while adding touches of post-punk goth rock, the Cult gained a dedicated following in their native Britain with mid-'80s singles like "She Sells Sanctuary" before breaking into the American metal market in the late '80s with "Love Removal Machine."
The hit single "Fire Woman" helped propel Sonic Temple into the American Top Ten, and within no time the Cult were seen hanging out with the likes of Mötley Crüe and Aerosmith, as well as supporting Metallica on the Damaged Justice tour. The Cult have come roaring back in grand fashion.
"Choice of Weapon", the band’s ninth full-length album, is considered to be their best output since 2001′s "Beyond Good and Evil". It marks their first new album in five years. Written by founding members Astbury and Duffy, produced by Chris Goss and Bob Rock, and recorded in New York, Los Angeles, the California high desert and the band’s Witch Mountain studio with long-time members John Tempesta on drums and bassist Chris Wyse.
As leadoff to the new album, “For The Animals” finds the band doing what they do best – riding Billy Duffy’s absolutely searing riffs and showcasing Ian Astbury’s ever-powerful vocal command. With special guests Against Me! & The Icarus Line.
