What would happen if the Pope got cold feet? In Nanni Moretti's wry comic drama, the newly elected Pope, Cardinal Melville suffers a panic attack just as he is due to appear on St. Peter's balcony to greet the faithful who have been patiently awaiting the conclave's decision.
When Cardinal's advisers are unable to convince Melville that he is the right man for the job, they seek help from a renowned psychoanalyst- and atheist- played by director Moretti. But the fear of the responsibility suddenly thrust on him is one problem that Melville must face on his own. "Habemus Papam" (We Have a Pope) was made in 2011 by Nanni Moretti and will run for 102 minutes.
