Imagine you are Joelle, a loving mother with a 4-year old daughter Halle. Now, imagine that as Joelle, you have terminal cancer and only a minimal amount of time left to share with your daughter. What would you do?
The real life Joelle, wanting to squeeze in as many memories as possible, read children’s stories to Halle. Those shared moments, cuddled together in the quietude of their home, inspired Joelle and Light One Little Candle became a reality. After Joelle lost her battle to cancer, her childhood friend and soul sitter Lee Rosenberg picked up the baton and 5000 books later Joelle’s legacy lives on.
LOLC, a non-profit foundation, collects and distributes classic children’s books to cancer patients to read to their children. This loving story of soul sitting reminds us that endings can birth new beginnings that honor and benefit life itself.
