The free monthly film series sponsored by Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library continues with the screening of another classic film in the miniseries, "Out of the Shadows: The Mystery Thriller," on Wednesday, November 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

This month’s feature is a celebrated 1944 film we’re not permitted to name (check at the library for more complete information), starring Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb and Dana Andrews and directed by a Hollywood great with a palindromic name. The film will be introduced by Ralph DeLauro, co-founder of Cinema Under The Stars and founder of the Central Library’s film series, a virtual fount of film knowledge—ever animated and entertaining, introduces each film with interesting facts and “juicy gossip,” just enough to set the stage.

Following the screening, he moderates a discussion with the audience focusing on the techniques used by the filmmaker to tell his story. Mr. DeLauro, who has also taught film appreciation classes through the SDSU extension and the OASIS program, says, “We would like the filmgoers to appreciate what lies behind the surface story—the construction of the film and how it was put together for emotional impact.”

Location: Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center is located at 10301 Scripps Lake Drive. Overflow parking is available on Meanley Drive off Scripps Ranch Blvd. (Google Maps)

For more information, visit or call (858) 538-8158. This film series is intended for adults and teens. We hope to see you at the movies!
