The PLNU Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the PLNU Jazz Band perform separately and together.
PLNU Vocal Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble of 6-9 voices sings various styles of jazz music, both unaccompanied and with rhythm section. It performs secular and sacred music on campus, in the community, and in local churches. Members are required to perform in another 1 unit ensemble.
The Jazz Band provides a classic Big Band ensemble experience university students. The group is composed of the standard big band instrumentation of four or five trumpets, four or five trombones, five woodwinds, piano, bass, guitar, drums, vocalist and miscellaneous percussion. The Ensemble performs at festivals, on-campus concerts, churches and with world-class jazz artists. In addition to great performance opportunities, the ensemble provides future musicians/educators with the basics of jazz musicianship, techniques and education.
