The free monthly film series sponsored by Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library continues with the screening of another classic film in the current miniseries, "Where Danger Lives: Shades of Noir,” on Wednesday, September 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This month’s critically acclaimed film noir thriller, "Detour," has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Ralph DeLauro, co-founder of Cinema Under The Stars and founder of the Central Library’s film series, a virtual fount of film knowledge—ever animated and entertaining, introduces each film with interesting facts and “juicy gossip,” just enough to set the stage.
Following the screening, he moderates a discussion with the audience focusing on the techniques used by the filmmaker to tell his story. Mr. DeLauro, who has also taught film appreciation classes through the SDSU extension and the OASIS program, says, “We would like the filmgoers to appreciate what lies behind the surface story—the construction of the film and how it was put together for emotional impact.”
