The contra-bass is one of the most expressive, rich, and dynamic solo instruments. Pairing solo, duo, and bass sextets, this concert will explore the bass' range of form and feeling and includes: music by resident artist Mark Dresser, video imagery by Jeff Kaiser, a tribute to Stefano Scodanibbio and Steve Lacy, and solos set to sculptor Robert Taplin's "Five Outer Planets" and Sarah Jane Lapp's "Chronicles of an Asthmatic Stripper."
The Museum has selected three nationally recognized musicians: Danny Green, Joshua White, and Mark Dresser for the Jazz Residency Project. During their residencies, each musician will explore a single topic or theme critical to their work over the course of three concerts. Each concert includes a unique repertoire and ensemble. Mark will perform three concerts on August 15, August 22, and August 29.
Mark Dresser will be joined by bassists:
Tim McNalley – Contrabass
Jeff Kaiser – Video
On these Thursday evenings, the galleries will be open until 9:00 p.m, and snacks and beverages will be available from a no-host bar. Free after Museum admission.
