David Kahn, Executive Director of the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, New York, and past Director of the San Diego History Center, is a great collector of remarkable Japanese materials. Included in his collection, are hundreds of Japanese kites. "Tako Kichi: Kite Crazy in Japan" is an impressive exhibition of Kahn's collection, and is currently on view at the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This exhibition presents traditional kites from various regions of Japan, introduces a number of respected kite artists, and explores cultural, historic, and artistic perspectives of kite-making and kite-flying in Japan.
Visitors have the opportunity to participate in the artistic process of kite making through a variety of engaging gallery activities.
