The San Diego Chinese Center announces that it will host its 31th annual Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair February 16-17, 2013 in the Asian Pacific Thematic Historic District of San Diego.
This two day event, sponsored by over 25 organizations, is an annual cultural outreach program as well as a fund-raising event to benefit the year-round cultural programs and charitable services provided to the community by the San Diego Chinese Center (SDCC).
“We are excited to enter our fourth decade of celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year in downtown San Diego,” said Kwong Hui, SDCC president. “Last year, over 25,000 joined our festivities. In 2013, we again welcome the San Diego community to share our celebration of the Year of the Snake - a time for family, friendship, and giving thanks.”
The Fair will be open on both days from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is free, and all ages are invited. The celebration will include lion and dragon dances, continuous live performances on stage with martial arts demonstrations, acrobats, traditional Chinese music performances, folk dances, and taiko drumming.
Visitors can sample over 50 food and commercial booths. Children can make lanterns and masks in the Children Craft Area, and march in the Lantern Parade each day. A full schedule of events can be found at the Fair website at www.sdcny.org
Among the Fair sponsors are Sempra Energy, San Diego Union-Tribune, House of China, Families with Children from China, the San Diego Chinese Women's Association, Ed Wong Foundation, SR Thai BBQ, and Finest City Kettlecorn.
