In keeping with our history of bringing excellent and inspiring writers to the San Diego and Point Loma community, Writer’s Symposium by the Sea 2013 is pleased to present this year’s line-up, former US Poet Laureate from 2002-2003, Billy Collins, and journalist Cathleen Falsani. Evening interviews will be held in Crill Performance Hall in the heart of the campus, as will additional afternoon workshops.

Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. His work has appeared in a variety of periodicals including The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and The American Scholar, he is a Guggenheim fellow and a New York Public Library “Literary Lion.” His last three collections of poems have broken sales records for poetry. His readings are usually standing room only, and his audience – enhanced tremendously by his appearances on National Public Radio – includes people of all backgrounds and age groups. Billy Collins will be presenting on Tuesday evening, February 26th for $15.

“God Girl” Cathleen Falsani is an award-winning religion columnist who writes for Religion News Service and Sojourners magazine. From 2000 to 2010 she was the religion writer for the Chicago Sun Times. Falsani is the author of several non-fiction books that deal with religious, spiritual, and cultural issues. Among these are the most recent Belieber!: Fame, Faith & the Heart of Justin Bieber; Sin Boldly: A Field Guide For Grace — a spiritual memoir and travelogue published September 1, 2008 — and The Dude Abides: The Gospel According to the Coen Brothers, published in October 2009. Cathleen Falsani will be at the Symposium Monday, February 25, 7:00 PM for $10.
