Join us on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2-4pm for Yin/Yang Yoga for Athletes with Anne Cleveland at the La Jolla Yoga Center.
The “Yin/Yang for Athletes” workshop begins with a fiery Yang (Vinyasa) practice to build heat in the body. This heat prepares the body to then melt deeply into a luscious hour of Yin Yoga (restorative, deep release) and Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep.
It is said that one hour of Yoga Nidra is equal to four hours of normal sleep, and is the secret of great yogis both today and in past.
Why Practice Yoga if you’re an athlete?
- Helps with injury prevention
- Engages inner strength
- Increases cardiovascular capacity
- Promotes recovery in between training sessions
- Maintains a healthy and balanced state of being
- Promotes cleansing of toxins from the body
- Develops a new sense of clarity and confidence from within... helps with pre-race jitters!
It is okay if you can’t touch your toes. Yoga is extremely effective at improving flexibility over time. Other benefits of yoga include improved balance, strength, mood and ability to sleep.
“Yin/Yang for Athletes” is for anyone who would like to learn how to complement their training routine with yoga, from beginners who have never tried yoga before to those who have been practicing for years.
The “Yin” and “Yang” will be presented with alignment-based instruction and appropriate modifications for all levels of participants. We will explore yoga as both a strength and endurance workout and a powerful recovery practice.
