The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild cordially invites you to our celebration of plein-air painting in Balboa Park, Saturday, January 26, 2013. Our accomplished speakers will be Jean Stern and Dr. Ariel Plotek. Additionally, local plein air artists will be demonstrating their processes.
Admission Prices: $10 Museum members / $15, non-members / $8 Military, Students, Seniors
10AM - 1PM Plein-Air artists painting in Balboa Park at designated locations, maps will be provided at Copley Auditorium to artist locations for guests to witness plein-air painting first-hand.
1PM –2PM Jean Stern – speaking on Plein-Air painting. A book signing will follow.
3PM - 4PM Dr. Ariel Plotek – speaking on Reiffel as a post-impressionist; a museum tour will follow the lecture.
About our speakers:
Jean Stern is the Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. He is an authoratative historian on Californian impressionism. Since 1993, Stern has brought the Irvine Museum to national esteem. Jean, in conjunction with the California Art Club, has recently authored California Light: A Century of Landscapes.
Dr. Ariel Plotek came to The San Diego Museum of Art in 2010, after completing his Ph.D. on 19th century French Art at NYU. He has worked since on a broad range of exhibitions, from European projects like Toulouse-Lautrec's Paris: Selections from the Baldwin M. Baldwin Collection and From El Greco to Dalí: Great Spanish Masters from the Pérez Simón Collection, to contemporary exhibitions such as Dynamic: Blue Note After Rivera by Roberto Cortázar. Most recently, he curated Charles Reiffel: An American Post-Impressionist, a collaboration with the San Diego History Center.
