Sprays of pink cherry blossoms (sakura) will appear in painted form at San Diego’s historic Balboa Park during the 11th annual Friends of Taka Sumi-e art society show and sale, to be held Saturday and Sunday March 16 and 17, 2013. Show hours are 11 am to 4 pm both days. Admission is free.
The art show and sale, held in Room 101 at the Casa del Prado, highlights Japanese art, culture, and traditions. Students and associates of San Diego Community College instructor Takashi Ijichi will exhibit original artworks of many subjects in both sumi (ink) and Asian watercolors.
The show includes displays of traditional Japanese flower arrangements, a tea ceremony, a fashion show,and performances by Japanese dancers and musicians.Highlights will include demonstrations of brush painting by Takashi Ijichi.
And be sure to visit the nearby Japanese Friendship Garden before or after the show, where cherry blossoms will be in bloom.
